Patterns Wizard

Wizard

Android TV uses four-way directional navigation, with one item in focus at all times This navigation model is ideal for content consumption, but not for performing complex navigational tasks.

Wizards help automate complex tasks. On Android TV, wizards consolidate multiple prompts into a single guided sequence of dialogs. Wizards are recommended for tasks that involve multiple user queries, such as first-run experiences, sign-up flows, or check-out flows.

First-run experience Expand and collapse content An arrow that points down when collapsed and points up when expanded.

Android TV follows the material design guidelines for first-run experiences, with the exception of the layout of the Warm Welcome screen. Using the same content area as in a dialog, users can paginate using the D-pad left or right buttons. Focus remains on the primary action.

Closing the wizard Expand and collapse content An arrow that points down when collapsed and points up when expanded.

When a user completes a wizard’s workflow, provide feedback to the user on whether the experience was successful and any other relevant information.
