Because TV users spend most of their time on immersive activities such as watching movies or playing games, conventional notifications such as snackbars or dialogs can disrupt the TV environment. All types of notifications are discouraged on Android TV.
The Android TV system reserves notifications for only a few important system-level events, such as a system update, low remote battery, and lost Internet connection. These notifications may appear in the form of full-screen dialogs, toasts, or row items on the home screen. The system only displays these when they either aren’t interrupting immersive app experiences or if the notification is critical to system function.
